Tankardstown House Wedding Photographer | Esther & Gavin, Co. Meath

If you’ve just booked Tankardstown House and you’re now deep in the rabbit hole of finding a photographer — hi, welcome, you’ve come to the right place.

I’ve photographed a number of weddings at Tankardstown House and it’s genuinely one of my favourite venues in the country to work at. The light in that house, the walled garden, the courtyard — it’s a photographer’s dream. So before I tell you about Esther and Gavin’s day, let me just say: if you’re getting married there, you’ve made an excellent choice.

The Day Started in Killiney

Esther got ready in Killiney, Dublin, and the ceremony was at the Church of the Assumption on Castle Street in Dalkey — a beautiful church on the south Dublin coast. When you’re making that journey from Dublin to Meath on your wedding day, an early ceremony is genuinely the move. It gives the day room to breathe, and by the time you arrive at Tankardstown, you’re not rushing — you’re arriving.

What Tankardstown Looks Like Through a Camera

Here’s what I’ll tell any couple who books Tankardstown: the venue does a lot of the work. The walled garden alone gives you portrait options that you’d struggle to find anywhere else in Ireland. The house interiors — the light, the textures, the scale of it — photograph beautifully. And the grounds mean you’re never short of somewhere to go.

What I look for at any venue is variety and natural light. Tankardstown has both in abundance.

Esther & Gavin — Worth the Wait

These two were originally meant to get married in July 2021. Covid had other plans. They postponed a full year so that everyone — every single person they wanted there — could be in the room. That tells you everything about Esther and Gavin.

On the day itself they were relaxed, happy and completely themselves. The kind of couple where you never have to manufacture a moment because the moments are just happening constantly in front of you. Their guests were the same — fed off the couple’s energy all day long.
