Niamh & Brian’s Wedding at The Millhouse, Slane

Some details from a wedding day stay with you long after you’ve packed up and driven home. For Niamh and Brian’s day at The Millhouse in Slane, it’s Brian’s face. Specifically the exact moment he turned and saw Niamh walking down the aisle with her dad. I won’t say he held it together. He absolutely did not hold it together. And it was one of the best things I photographed all year.

The Ceremony — Brian Did Not Hold It Together

The Millhouse is a beautiful setting for a ceremony, but what makes a ceremony photograph is the people in it — and Niamh and Brian’s had that quality from the first moment.

When Brian turned and saw Niamh coming down the aisle with her dad, it wasn’t a quiet tear-at-the-corner-of-the-eye situation. It was a full, unguarded, completely genuine reaction — the kind that spreads immediately to everyone else in the room. The music, the room going quiet, her dad walking her in — and then Brian just completely went for it. If I ever need to explain to someone why I photograph weddings, that moment is Exhibit A.

The Bridal Party — All Laughter, No Standing Still

Niamh and Brian had a large bridal party, and a large energy to match. The photoshoot after the ceremony was exactly the kind I love — a big group of people who clearly have the best time together, generating their own momentum, zero need for direction. When the laughter is real, you don’t have to manufacture anything. I just had to keep up.

The Millhouse grounds gave us plenty to work with too. It’s a genuinely gorgeous venue — the kind of backdrop that makes the job easier without you having to try too hard.

Momo

Every wedding guest already knows who Momo is, so I’ll keep this brief. Niamh and Brian’s dog joined us for photos and, in the way that dogs reliably do at weddings, immediately became the most-photographed member of the family. Utterly unphased by the whole occasion, completely confident in front of a camera, and an excellent subject throughout. No notes.

Including your dog in your wedding photos is always the right call. This is not a controversial opinion.
