Wedding At Ballintubbert House & Gardens
Niamh & David
Ballintubbert Gardens and House is hidden in a valley in Co Laois just one hours drive from Dublin. With so many different options for your wedding ceremony, afterparty and accommodation, this is the perfect country house venue with a twist. Ballintubbert house offers you the choice of a glorious summer wedding in their Lutyens water garden or the natural beauty of the orchards. On the other hand, is your cosy autumnal or winter wedding with your ceremony in their 16th century church also located on Ballintubbert grounds or the fantastic circular marquee on the lawn, just perfect for an indoor wedding with an outdoor feel. It is all a wedding photographer’s dream venue, even in the lashings of rain we experienced on a wet day in June. We still managed to get shelter and amazing light in the tree lined driveway and around the orchards. Ballintubbert house is located on 14 acres of land so there is so many beautiful backdrops for a wedding photographer to choose from, I was spoilt for choice.
Accommodation for your guests
Ballintubbert house was built in 1725, is perfect for your main bridal party to stay and indeed get ready on the morning of your wedding ,it surrounds you with history at every turn and is ideal for the bride and the ladies to get ready. Just 200 meters away, located in the gardens, is the old schoolhouse. This is perfect for the groom and his gents to prepare on the morning of your wedding and for guest accommodation after the party. The garden wing contains beautiful bespoke rooms that all your guests can comfortably stay in also. If you want to go all out, there are yurts and even a tree house that can be used as a glamping experience after cosy night-time drinks and songs around the campfire.
Wedding Photo Opportunities
One thing that Ballintubbert house has in abundance are locations for your wedding photography. Starting at the tree lined driveway, you would almost think you were deep in a woodland. The 19th acres has over 30 different “garden rooms”. Inside the house you have rooms that are very spacious with lovely natural light pouring through the big sash windows. The words “photographers wonderland” comes to mind.
Niamh’s & Davids Wedding
After photographing a bunch of Niamh and Dave’s friend’s weddings it’s great to hear that I was going to be covering their wedding too. Niamh and David decided to go for a first look, this way most of their photography would be done and dusted before the ceremony even took place. This is a fantastic idea. I would in encourage anybody with the time to consider doing this.
The day started out very wet, however this didn’t really matter as we found good shelter under the tree-lined driveway. When the rain stopped we hopped from garden to garden, each with it’s own individual style.
It was clear that the outdoor wedding ceremony that Niamh and David had planned would need to be re-located inside. This made no difference as Ballintubbert have a fantastic barn for when things don’t go to plan.
The rain cleared up for the rest of the day. Just in time too, as the ice-cream man arrived straight after the ceremony. Yummy!
